How to add an administrator to your Squarespace website
So your web designer or virtual assistant has asked you give them access to your Squarespace website, how do you actually do that?
This blog post will walk you through step by step how to find the right settings, add someone as an admin, and choose the right level of access.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you only give a third-party the required level of access to your site. For example, you don’t want to give access to all your client’s data if it is not necessary due to privacy concerns.
Working with Freya Padmore Web Design? If I have asked you to add me to your site, I will require full admin access so I can access everything I need. E.g. adding new pages, editing your domain etc… Rest assured you’re in good hands and I will only ever access data or make changes that are necessary and agreed beforehand, in line with out contract.

Choosing The Right Level Of Access / Role
There are various roles that you can give someone depending on the level of access they need. It’s important you only give someone the required level of access they need so they can’t access client data unnecessarily.
Administrator
Administrators can do almost everything the owner can do, except change ownership, so don’t worry about them “stealing” your site. This is a good permission level for people who need full access, such as your web designer when they will be working with different settings/domains/etc.
Billing
If you give someone billing permissions, it means they can cancel/change subscriptions and view invoices but can’t edit the site. Perfect if you need to give access to someone who managed your finances.
Website Editor
This level of permission means they can add blocks/products/content on the page, but they can’t add pages or make style changes. If you are working with a web designer, I recommend NOT choosing these settings, but full admin so we can get the full access we need to set things up properly for you. This is perfect for someone who makes minor changes to your site but doesn’t make design decisions.
Analytics
If you have analytics permissions, it means you can access the website and commerce analytics panels. This is perfect if you have a reporting team or someone who needs to access the stats for your site, but not make any changes to the site itself.
Comment Moderators
This role is pretty self explanatory. If you have a blog that allows comments and you have someone who needs to edit/moderate comments, this is the perfect level of permissions for them e.g. a community manager.
Store Manager
A store manager can add products, manage orders and invoice clients. They can also add some content like blog posts and events. They will also receive store notifications, so this perfect if you have a team member that manages your stock.
Email Campaigns Editor
This role can create and send email campaigns, and track email analytics. They can’t change the email campaigns subscription. This role is perfect if you have someone who helps with your email marketing, but doesn’t need access to edit the site.
Viewer
This gives users view-only access to your site. If your site is private, it means they won’t need the password to access it. They can’t make any changes to the site.
Final Notes
So there you have a step-by-step tutorial walking you through how to add an admin to your Squarespace site. Make sure that you give them appropriate permissions and take extra care not to share too many permissions where they’re not needed.
